THE END OF THE ROAD

Dear friends,

I am writing to you back on home soil and within a dramatic 35-40º drop in temperature from our previous Antipodean dwellings. I’ve got my coat on indoors, in other words. But that’s okay. Part of the fun of tour has been switching between wildly different climates, seeking out new life and new civilisations, to boldly go where no one has gone before… (more…)

ANNOUNCING REMIX EP BY BLANCK MASS, TRUSS AND YOSI HORIKAWA

Screen Shot 2015-12-18 at 09.34.02

We’re delighted to announce the release of a brand new remix EP, with tracks from CULTURE OF VOLUME, reinterpreted by electronic drone pioneer Blanck Mass, Japanese field recording enthusiast Yosi Horikawa and one of techno’s most exciting talents, Truss. You can listen to the Truss remix here and buy/stream the EP on many platforms here.

Will gives his thoughts on each:

Blanck Mass
Benjamin John Power – he of Fuck Buttons fame – records under his incredible solo project Blanck Mass. He’s made two of my favourite electronic albums of recent years in his self-titled debut and 2015’s ‘Dumb Flesh’. Plus, his 12” ‘White Math/Polymorph’ from 2012 is possibly one of my most played pieces of vinyl. I’ve gotten to know Ben over the last few years so it seemed like an obvious ask when thinking of remixers. I really like what he’s done to MANNER OF WORDS. I have a theory that it is the first time he has ever worked in a 3/4 time signature as well and I’m happy to have helped this happen.

Truss
I’ve seen Tom Russell aka Truss (and his regular sparring partner Perc) more than any other techno DJ since I moved to London, and it’s hard to think of a more consistently transcendent, and at times brutal club experience. Nights at Corsica Studios in Elephant & Castle have been very important and influential for me, socially and artistically, and under his MPIA3 moniker, Tom’s RA mix was often the ‘getting pumped’ music before heading off to some landmark raves. While his remix of MONTAGE RESOLUTION is a little more subdued, the swing and pace is everything I’ve come to love and respect in Tom’s work.

Yosi Horakawa
I wasn’t very familiar with Yosi’s work before Gyto who works for Hostess – the label that distribute and promote our records in Asia – sent through some suggestions of possible remixers. Really fell in love with his stuff instantly though and I like how he’s kept MANNER OF WORDS’ structure intact but completely evolved the dressing around the core of the song.

A MESSAGE FROM WILL, POST-TOUR

lastnighttour

“Dear friends,

I’m writing from a train to Leeds where I’ll spend a few days unwinding, and thinking of things other than the musical structures I’ve been touring around for the last six weeks. Myself, Andy and George had an excellent adventure in the USA (both coasts), Canada, back over to the European mainland for some German shows and one in glorious Bratislava, and then concluded our journey with a brilliant and encouraging two week stretch of the UK (and one Irish festival show in Dublin). LIVE AT KEXP

When we were out on the North American tour in May, we visited KEXP in Seattle to record (and have filmed) a four-song session. You can watch it here, or below, and view Charina Pitzel‘s fantastic photography too…

“In this stunning set, William Doyle brings his alter-ego project, East India Youth, into the KEXP live room, unfurling a collection of intriguing tunes from his April 2015 release, Culture of Volume. Marshalling strange, ingenious ideas into coherent, interesting pop music, East India Youth flirt between genres; with a mix of IDM, soft rock, and prog-pop all rendered with an amazing level of detail, with no expense spared. From the electric boogaloo of “Hearts That Never” to the the distorted guitars of “Looking for Someone” this is a live set that deserves to be listened to on expensive headphones”
